3.1.3 Gender Egalitarianism

This dimension reflects “(…) societies’ beliefs about whether members’ biological sex should determine the roles that they play in their homes, business organizations, and communities” (House, et al. 2004, 282).

What Hofstede combined with his Masculinity and Femininity dimension, the GLOBE project conceptually divided into the dimensions Gender Egalitarianism, Performance Orientation, Assertiveness and Humane Orientation (House, et al. 2004, 347). Gender Egalitarianism reflects the stereotypes of individuals as well as ideologies regarding males and females (House, et al. 2004, 350).

China scores low in Gender Egalitarianism practices (band B, rank 48) and significantly low (band C, rank 58) in values compared to the mean (see Figure 3.5 : GLOBE Gender Egalitarianism China vs. global mean (House, et al. 2004)).
